Ordinance No. 21
An Ordinance Relating to Peddlers
Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Troy:
Section 1. Every person who shall sell or offer for sale, in this city, any goods, wares, merchandise, or article of trade, at any place upon or along any street or alley, by going from place to place to sell the same, shall be deemed a peddler.
Section 2. It shall not be lawful for any peddler to exercise his calling within the limits of this city without first obtaining a license therefor. Any person violating this section shall be fined not less than one dollar ($1) nor more than twenty-five dollars ($25) for each day such violation shall occur.
Provided, that this ordinance shall not apply to hucksters of produce and vegetables.
Section 3. Any person desiring a license as a peddler may obtain the same from the City Clerk by paying therefor as follows:
- One day: $1.00
- Three days: $3.00
- One week: $5.00
Section 4. Any person licensed as aforesaid who shall be guilty of any fraud, cheat, misrepresentation, or imposition while acting in such capacity shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined not less than five dollars ($5) nor more than fifty dollars ($50).
Section 5. The City Clerk shall receive the sum of twenty-five cents (25¢) as a fee for each license issued under this ordinance, to be paid by the person taking out the same.
Section 6. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its publication in pamphlet form.
