Ordinance No. 154

An ordinance relating to dogs, defining same, fixing violations of ordinance an offense, and repealing Ordinance No. 147 (Revised Ordinances of the City of Troy).
Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Troy:
Sec. I. That any person or persons who shall keep or harbor any dog or bitch in the City of Troy shall pay a license fee of One Dollar ($1.00) to the City of Troy for each and every dog kept or harbored, and a license fee of Two Dollars and Fifty Cents ($2.50) for every bitch so kept or harbored, for each and every year or part of a year that said dog or bitch is kept or harbored.
Sec. II. That said license shall be collected by the City Marshal, who shall register with the City Clerk a description of the dog or bitch and with the name of the person paying said license.
Sec. III. Any owner or person who shall keep or harbor any dog or bitch in the City of Troy for thirty (30) days without having first paid a license therefor, shall be deemed guilty of a violation of this ordinance, and upon conviction shall be fined in a sum not less than Five Dollars ($5.00) nor more than Ten Dollars ($10.00).
Sec. IV. It shall be the duty of the City Marshal to kill every dog or bitch running at large in said city and not duly assessed as provided by this ordinance.
Sec. V. Any bitch running at large “in heat,” whether licensed or not, shall be killed by the City Marshal.
Sec. VI. It shall be unlawful for any person to keep or harbor a notoriously vicious dog or bitch in this city unless the same is securely confined, and any person violating this section of this ordinance shall be punished by a fine upon conviction of not to exceed Ten Dollars ($10.00).
Sec. VII. When any number of dogs or bitches are kept securely in a kennel and not permitted to run at large, a license tax of 50 cents per annum upon each thereof shall be collected by the Marshal in lieu of said tax on each dog or bitch.
Sec. VIII. Ordinance No. 147 of the City of Troy is hereby repealed.
Sec. IX. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its publication in the Weekly Kansas Chief.
