Ordinance No. 121
An Ordinance Relating to the Building of Sidewalks in the City of Troy.
Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Troy:
Section 1.
That the owners of property fronting or abutting on the east side of Main Street, and the owners of property fronting or abutting on the west side of Liberty Street, be and are hereby directed to build sidewalks as follows, to wit:
Commencing at the northwest corner of Block Twenty-three (23) in the City of Troy; thence running south on the east side of Main Street to the depot of the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railway Company, at the point beginning the sidewalk, and where the grade shall be eight (8) feet and four (4) inches from the street elevation; said walk shall be continued south in a straight line to a point fifty (50) feet south of Ash Street, at a point eighteen (18) feet from the east street line; thence southeasterly in a straight line to a point eight (8) feet and one inch due east of the southeast corner of said Rock Island depot.
Also commencing at the northeast corner of Block Twenty-three (23); thence running south on the west side of Liberty Street to the depot of the St. Joseph & Grand Island Railway Company, at the point beginning the sidewalk; the grade shall be twelve (12) feet from the street line, and shall be continued south in a straight line to the south line of State Street; thence southwesterly in a straight line to a point nine (9) feet nine (9) inches east of the continuation of the west line of Liberty Street at the steps of said Grand Island depot. Said sidewalk shall be built on the grade shown by the city datum line.
Section 2.
That said sidewalk on the east side of Main Street shall be built five (5) feet wide, and the walk on the east side of Liberty Street shall be built four (4) feet wide.
The sidewalks shall be built of cement, crushed rock, sand, and cinders, as follows:
- A bed of cinders four (4) inches thick;
- Then two (2) inches of crushed rock;
- Cement thoroughly mixed and worked to a five (5) inch thickness;
- Then covered with a coat of float or finish.
The sidewalk surface shall consist of Portland cement one (1) inch thick.
Section 3
Said sidewalks shall be built within sixty (60) days from the time this ordinance takes effect. If not so built, the city authorities will proceed to build the same as provided by law.
Section 4
Ordinance No. 83, and all other ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith, are hereby repealed.
Section 5
This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its publication in The Weekly Kansas Chief.
