An Ordinance in Relation to Swine Running at Large

Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Troy:

Section 1.

It shall be unlawful for any person or persons owning or having the care of any swine to permit the same to run at large within the limits of the city.

Section 2.

It shall be the duty of the City Marshal to impound any swine found running at large within the City of Troy.

The Marshal shall advertise such swine on the day they are taken up by posting three or more notices within the business part of the city, describing the swine so impounded and notifying all persons interested that, unless the swine are proved and redeemed within five days, they will be sold at public auction to pay the costs.

Section 3.

After five days’ notice following the impounding of any swine, the Marshal may proceed to sell the animals separately at public auction to the highest bidder.

After paying all costs of keeping and feeding the animals, together with the Marshal’s fees, the remaining balance, if any, shall be paid into the city treasury.

Section 4

The Marshal shall receive for his services in carrying out the provisions of this ordinance the sum of one dollar ($1.00)for each and every head of swine so impounded, to be paid by the person redeeming the same, or from the proceeds of the sale, as provided in this ordinance.

Section 5.

This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its publication in pamphlet form.
